Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München’s Post

Nobel Prize for LMU physicist: This year’s Nobel Prize in Physics has gone to Ferenc Krausz for his work on attosecond physics. On December 10, Ferenc Krausz will be awarded the The Nobel Prize in #Physics in Stockholm. “An honor like this is very much the result of teamwork over long periods of time. And so I accept the prize with all humility”, says Krausz. “At the end of the day, all the breakthroughs and results wouldn’t have been possible without the brilliance and stamina of many fantastic colleagues, including numerous non-scientists.” Krausz is considered one of the founders of attosecond physics. Using these ultrashort laser pulses, scientists can accomplish tasks such as tracking the movements of individual electrons in the microcosmos and so obtaining insights into their behavior in atoms, molecules, and solids.
